Behind my work is a bigger picture.
My fiancé, Aissa, is Moroccan, and together we run a tourism business called Explore Morocco.
His family lives in the Moroccan Sahara, where temperatures from June to August can reach 50°C. Together, we are working toward buying a small piece of land on the Atlantic coast of Morocco and building a simple home there.
This property would give his family a refuge from the extreme desert heat during the summer months, where coastal temperatures are far more mild. For us, it would also become a place to build a life between two countries, and a place of temporary escape from the deep cold of Canadian winters.
The total cost of the land and home is approximately €30,000, or around $45,000 CAD. It is a real and tangible dream that we are working toward step by step.
At the same time, Aissa and I share a larger vision for the future. We hope to support women and girls in southern Morocco, especially in the Sahara, through initiatives focused on women’s health, safety, and opportunities to build income and independence. Over time, we hope that vision can grow to also support education, and animal welfare in these rural Saharan cities.
